Wayward (novel)
Wayward is the story of young Americans urban backpacking throughout several European countries during the mid-2000's, shortly after President Bush was re-elected. Close friends train, ferry, bus, and fly across Europe over a summer, and each discover their pressure points as they face cultural frustrations and the consequences of spending every waking moment seeing, hearing, smelling each other. Jim and Lissa are newlyweds, and though they don't claim it they consider this trip an elongated honeymoon. Marshall is love struck and torn between his new girlfriend back home in the Arizona desert and the new sights he encounters daily. L, the primary character, is the most awkward of the group, and through his anxiety and eventual paranoia, we see the slow disintegration of this tight-knit group.
